District Judge, District 9, Office 1

The Judicial Nominating Commission seeks applicants to fille a vacancy for the position of District Judge for the 9th Judicial District, encompassing Payne and Logan Counties, Office 1. This vacancy is created by the retirement of the Honorable Phillip Corley, effective September 1, 2024.

To be appointed to Office 1, 9th Judicial District, one must be a legal resident of Payne or Logan County at the time (s)he takes the oath of office and assumes the duties of office. Additionally, prior to appointment, such appointee shall have had a minimum of four years’ experience in Oklahoma as a licensed practicing attorney, a judge of a court of record, or both.

Applications must be submitted to the Chairman of the JNC no later than 5:00 p.m., Friday, August 2, 2024. Applications may be mailed, hand delivered, or delivered by third party commercial carrier. On Friday, October 18, 2024, the Judicial Nominating Commission (JNC) will conduct interviews for the
position of District Judge, Payne and Logan Counties - District 9, Office 1:

The Judicial Nominating Commission (JNC) announces the three nominees for the position of District Judge, District 9, Office 1, Payne and Logan Counties. After concluding the review process and conducting in-person interviews, the JNC submitted to the Governor the following nominees for this position:

  • Louis Alvin Duel, Jr.
  • Jason Allen Reese
  • Katherine Elder Thomas

Under Article 7B, Section 4 of the Oklahoma Constitution, the Governor has sixty days to appoint an individual to this position. If he does not do so, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court shall make the appointment.
