District Judge, Office 1, Carter County

The Judicial Nominating Commission seeks applicants to fill a vacancy for the position of District Judge, Office 1, for the Twentieth Judicial District, Carter County. This vacancy is created by the retirement of the Honorable Dennis Morris, effective September 1, 2025.

To be appointed to the above-referenced Office of District Judge, one must be a qualified elector of the Twentieth Judicial District at the time (s)he takes the oath of office and assumes the duties of office. Additionally, prior to appointment, such appointee shall have had a minimum of four years’ experience in Oklahoma as a licensed practicing attorney, a judge of a court of record, or both.

Applications just be submitted to the Chairman of the JNC no later than 5:00 p.m., Friday, July 18, 2025. Applications may be mailed, hand delivered, or delivered by third party commercial carrier. Carter County – District – Nominees

The Judicial Nominating Commission (JNC) announces the three nominees for the position of District Judge, Office 1 for Carter County. Only three applications were received. Based on a 2016 Attorney General Opinion, the JNC’s role was merely to determine if all three applicants were legally qualified for the position. JNC Members found all three applicants were legally qualified, and no further process will ensue. The JNC submitted to the Governor, on August 27, 2025, the following nominees for this position:
